THREE PEAKS OF LAVAREDO, A MOTORCYCLE RIDE IN THE DOLOMITES
When articles talking generically about the Dolomites they almost always include the image of the Three Peaks of Lavaredo Tre Cime di Lavaredo located on the border between South Tyrol and Veneto since they symbolize best these mountains. The "Tre Cime di Lavaredo" massifs were declared by UNESCO in 2009 a World Heritage Site thanks to their unique beauty. In fact, the Three Peaks of Lavaredo are among the most famous, most photographed mountains in the world: you can find their pictures on many postcards and calendars everywhere.
These three Dolomites massifs, the "three dolostone fingers", are formed by Cima Grande, Big Peak, 2999 meters a.s.l., Cima Ovest, West Peak, 2973 meters a.s.l., and Cima Piccola, Small Peak, 2857 meters a.s.l., towering to the sky offering breathtaking views.
On this motorcycle tour, you will ride to discover closely these spectacular Dolomite massifs. Let's start from Cortina d'Ampezzo, an elegant ski & tourist resort called also "the pearl of the Dolomites", and head to Lake Misurina . Before reaching the lake the high serpentine alpine road will lead you through the Tre Croci Pass, 1,809 meters a.s.l.,
Lake Misurina is a natural lake 1,754 meters above sea level, considered as one of the most beautiful lakes in Italy. It is a lovely tourist destination both summer and winter when it freezes completely and you can experience the thrill of walking on it.
Left behind the lake, now you have to take a private toll road towards the "Three Peaks of Lavaredo" crossing a majestic landscape that offering beautiful views: the stretch of road after the toll booth is especially spectacular!
When you reach the Auronzo Hut 2,333 meters a.s.l., have a stop. In the car park, you can leave your motorcycle and then have some hot tea or coffee in the cozy Refuge. Do not forget to take some pictures here of these beautiful landscapes all around you!
If you would like to spend some more time in this unique environment and you also like trekking beyond riding your motorcycle, there are some scenic trails: we suggest following the moderate difficulty path called "Three Peaks of Lavaredo Tour". It will lead you to Lavaredo Refuge and then follow the trail to Forcella Lavaredo. This will be without doubt an extraordinary experience where you can enjoy breathtaking views of the Three Peaks of Lavaredo and the nearby Dolomites massifs of Croda of Rondoni, Croda Passaporto, Mount Paterno, Teston Rudo, Sasso di Sesto, and Mount Mattina.
When your visit is over, walk back to the car park near Auronzo Refuge and then get on your motorcycle and ride back to Cortina d'Ampezzo following the same way backward.
